IKW ALSO - STILL ROOM FOR ABOUT 3 MORE

IKW is going to be tremendous. At least 7 different countries are contributing seasoned paddlers or high-level instructors to the mix, aside from paddlers from throughout NZ. Yes, it'll be laid-back, but it won't be boring !

New what-to-bring list and helpful-info file available on the IKW page.

Last time, you said it was over too soon.
So come March, the IKW follows CB-2008 and then the NZKBGT rounds out 10 days of fun.

See IKW link (at left) for the story.

What is Coastbusters 2008 ?

A weekend of fun, seminars, workshops, panel discussions and practical sea kayaking sessions.

The 12th Coasbusters Symposium is being held in Auckland. Friday & Saturday will be on the shores of beautiful Lake Pupuke, while Sunday will be at even-more-beautiful Sullivans Bay.

This summer’s Coastbusters features some amazing speakers and skilled kayakers from around New Zealand and overseas.

Who is Coastbusters for ?

Novices, intermediate and advanced sea kayakers – anyone with an interest in sea kayaking (some paddling experience required for Sunday’s on-the-water sessions).

This is the biggest New Zealand sea kayaking symposium. It is a chance to meet other kayakers, compare gear and gadgets, listen to speakers from far and near, watch mind-boggling demonstrations and be astounded by what some kayakers get up to!

You said we couldn’t beat the last event
well we’re going to do it !

First NZ International Kayak Festival / NZKBGT

As in the past, Coastbusters runs Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. There has been pressure to extend it – and we’ve listened. Now, the fun can continue - but in the form of two separate events.

The week following CB-2008 (Monday-Thursday, March 3,4,5,6) will be packed with Kayak events, celebrating the Hauraki Gulf and the kayaking opportunities in the Auckland area. We're calling it IKW (International Kayaking Week).

Choices of day-trips, overnight-touring, competitions and
in-depth workshops are being assembled to suit all tastes.

The goals are minimal-cost, good kayaking and good fun on and off the Hauraki Gulf. We intend it to work for Aucklanders and for visitors from near and far – South Islanders, Australians, Germans, Americans – we aim to make it work for all.

Unfortunately, numbers will be limited for a number of the events and priority will be given to CB-2008 attendees. Sign up for CB-2008 without delay, to get in the queue.

Have a look here for more info on the IKW.

The weekend after CB-2008 (Friday-Sunday, March 7,8,9) will be the NZ Kayak Builders’ Get-Together (NZKBGT).

This much-loved event is a super-laid-back weekend
focusing on hand-crafted kayaks & paddles and paddling on the magic waters of the Lakes of the Rotorua District.

Hint: Just pretend you’re planning to build your own kayak one day – and go... It’s open to everybody!

Have a look here for more info on the NZKBGT.

Kayakers from the South Island, Australia and further afield now have a 10-day long kayaking bonanza – to make the travelling even more worthwhile.

Think seriously about planning on a whole week of kayaking first week of March, next year.

Sunday’s on-the-water and on-the-beach sessions will be at Sullivan’s Bay (at the mouth of the Mahurangi, north of Auckland).

Event dates ?

The 2008 Coastbusters Sea Kayaking Symposium is set for the first weekend in March 2008

That’s Friday Feb 29th, through to Sunday March 2nd

What does it cost ?

Coastbusters is a registered non-profit organisation. The entry fee of $130 includes: all sessions, demonstrations and workshops on Friday night and Saturday; as well as Sunday’s on-the-water and on-the-beach activities. Also included is Saturday’s lunch, refreshments and a banquet dinner; and a BBQ lunch on Sunday afternoon.

You look after getting you and your kayak there, accommodation and breakfasts on Saturday & Sunday.

What participants liked the best...

"Being on/off the water with experienced paddlers in a knowledgeable sharing forum" – Phil

"Meeting new people and old friends. Time spent on the water" – Peter

"Everything! If I had to pick one thing, as an instructor, I benefited most from watching and learning from other instructors’ teaching styles. I also liked the "dry one day, wet the next" format." – Shawn (USA)
